This became evident to me, throughout the course. After entering my technological diary entry, I took a mental note of my findings, and always kept them in the back of my mind. For what if not is the major purpose of sociologist than to constantly observe the ever-changing social environment. As discussed in my diary, there are two key areas where my norms and values are at the highest point of confliction, when I am in class and when I am with other individuals. However, the area of possibility regarding confliction is everywhere, if you’re in a physical (real world) environment and have your phone with you, there is chance norms and values will conflict. SD, does not give recognition to how technology does impact our society. It does not acknowledge that even though technology at the point of development came to be because of a societal need, that it becomes apart of society. Furthermore, it not only becomes apart of it, it influences it via acting as medium of interactions. The virtual world, was created because people wanted to communicate with one another, the dominant platform of communication in contemporary society is, social media. However, where SD is correct is that technologies are created to fulfill a need of society, as evident with Bell and the telephone. Bell, originally created the phone, to be able to talk to his deaf mother and wife, to be able to communicate in a nonphysical way. Which is what he did, his invention was born out a social need, which would go on to impact his and the rest of the worlds history of daily life. Social media, is similar, it was created to provide a new platform of interaction, new ways to share and communicate.
