Technological Inventions During World War One

870 Words4 Pages

During the First World War, many important technological inventions were created. These inventions altered the way the Great War was fought. There are three inventions during World War One that impacted the development of the war. Tanks, aircraft, and machine guns all had an important use in the First World War. Tanks were the most important invention because of their ability to destroy, be defensive, and its mobility. The second most important invention was the aircraft because of its use to gather information, fight, and bomb. Finally the least important invention out of the top three most important inventions is the machine gun. What is good about the machine gun is that it has far range, it is fast and it is a defensive invention. Tanks …show more content…

The heavy metal plating protects the tank itself along with the people inside of the tank (Mizokami). Soldiers would also use tanks as a way to go across no man's land by hiding behind the tank. Although people view tanks offensively, they are also important defensively. Although a tank's mobility may be slow, it is still very important in the First World War. The long tracks are useful when traveling on the battlefield throughout the war. The tracks also help the tanks travel off road and over trenches (Ogorkiewicz). One of its greatest abilities is its ability to go over barbed wire, which is very hard to get through on foot because it catches on to clothing and human flesh (Lesson). Overall, tanks were a great invention when it comes to mobility in World War One. Aircrafts were a new technology and did not have as many uses at first. However, before aircrafts started fighting in the sky they were used to see what enemies were doing beyond their trenches (Keitch and Blair). Aircraft pilots could gather a large amount of information about the enemies in the sky and return it to the ground so everyone would be prepared for what is coming. This was the most effective way to gather information in the Great …show more content…

Dogfights were very important because it was a new way to fight in the war. Everyone was trying to achieve full victory in the air by shooting down each other's planes, while also flying the aircraft (The Great War in the Air). Dogfights are a part of history and helped to lead to the end of the war. Bombing the land below from the aircrafts above was very efficient and successful against the enemies. They would drop bombs into the enemy's trenches before attacking from the ground (The Great War in the Air). This would tell the men on ground that it is safe to go and the enemies will not fully be prepared to fight after just being bombed. The aircrafts dropping the bombs was very efficient, and another reason why aircrafts were an important invention. Machine guns could shoot accurately from a long distance away. This was important because the men could fire it from a far distance and not have to worry as much about getting shot while they were shooting (Military Technology in World War I). The distance also helped to disguise the machine gun so the enemies could not see that it was there until it was too late. This is how the range of the machine gun was
