1980s and Technology
What comes and goes but gets better overtime? What is new and old at the same time? Technology, technology comes and goes but keeps getting better over time. It is also new and old at the same time, because technology never stops advancing and improving. The Macintosh was like no PC seen before; it had the best graphical user interface of any PC of its time, because it was the first to use such a groundbreaking technology (Quezzaire). The Macintosh was a work of wonders its software was something rarely found at that time. The Macintosh grew and evolved, and was so highly praised that Microsoft tried recreating it in their windows program (Torr 153). Another amazing feat in technology in the 1980s was the space shuttle. Space was an amazing place that boggled the minds of all including the United States who reached it in the 60s. They did not stop there though, because on April 12, 1981, the United States created its first reusable space shuttle. The two solid rocket boosters that helped boost the space shuttle into orbit would be re-used, once recovered from the ocean along with other parts (Dunbar). This was an amazing feat that would lead to even more technological advances in space aeronautics. In 1981 IBM released the IBM 5150 which was the company's very first personal computer. It was groundbreaking at the time, and would lead to other advances in software. The original IBM 5150 contained an intel 8088, but later models would use a true 16-bit 80286 CPU. The 80286 was considered faster and more advanced than the 8088 version. These were some of the most predominant inventions of
