In the article, “Technology And Criminal Justice”, it talked about how technology is used in the criminal justice system. There were two focuses where technology was used, it was prisons and the police. Most of the prisons use an extended amount of technology where it places a major role, like an automatic locking system for the prison cells, surveillance is concluded throughout the prison inside and out. Which leads to having tight surveillance around the perimeter of the prison which means it’s hard for prisoners to escape from the prison. Communication through technology in criminal justice can be seen or be evaluated very easily or it can be very difficult. According to the article, “Inside the prison are levels of surveillance”. This means that all of the communication needs to be understood by watching prisoners through the CCTV cameras. In addition, having to evaluate their behavior, if one is acting odd it means he/she is up to something. Through watching the CCTV cameras, there needs to be a understanding of the situation which means some could be hard and some easy. Second is the method that is followed through technology, one is “prisons there is an automatic locking system for cells”. There are ways, where prison doors, gates, and cells can by controlled. There is a method of controlling how to open and close doors and even when to do it. If it is done at the wrong time or if the wrong door is opened, something can go wrong. It is a very simple method to do this from one place than opening it by hand, it makes the job easier and faster due to methods and technology. Lastly, a method that is used is the “tracker systems which gives the supervisor greater control”. This method helps to find offender in the criminal justice system database where the offender’s information is kept as a record for system to put in.
