I am applying for admission to the Master of Technology Entrepreneurship program because it is essential for me to get the mentorship and guidance I need in order for my business to thrive. Starting in June 2013, I began working on an app for the automotive industry, which was the predecessor to my current app Surge Simple. For the past two years I have been practicing the Lean Startup methodology and participating in start-up friendly mentorship programs such as Techstars’ Patriot Bootcamp, Startup Weekend and Founder’s Institute. I’ve committed long hours and intense focus to my company, all driven by my desire to see Surge Simple succeed and justify my pursuit of an entrepreneurial career in place of the steadier Marketing job I have at Fannie Mae. I see the Master of Technology Entrepreneurship program as a logical next step in my company’s progression. Flipping houses was very lucrative at the time so I quickly earned enough money in real estate to quit my job in television advertising and open a marketing consulting company that focused on placing local ads for automotive dealerships. When the economy took a turn for the worse and the automotive industry was left reeling, I had to shut down both businesses and begin applying for jobs. I spent the next few years working in corporate America and trying to rebound financially from my business failures while planning my next entrepreneurial
