Science should not control humanity despite its great advancement. Once humanity takes technology to extremities, the individual will lose his or her own values of happiness, uniqueness, and individualism. In the novel “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley, the author foresaw the dangers of the advancement of science and uses satirization to depict the direction the society is heading. One must be able to feel unhappiness in order to know the understand the meaning of happiness. In the World State, the definition of happiness is challenged by simply swallowing a pill of soma, an “ideal pleasure drug”(Huxley, ##). The citizens do not understand the idea of real happiness, but simply likes the idea of acquiring drugs. Back in 1932, people use alcohol for the same purpose: happiness. Although, technology can be used for another purpose - the used for propaganda. The World State was able to use entertainment as an act of advertisement so “most men and women will grow up to love their solitude and will not have dream of revolution” (Huxley, ##). For example, the use of hypnosis during sleep states, “Never put off till tomorrow the fun you can have today” (Huxley, ##). This used to technology suggests the society maintain the carefree attitude and encourages them to have as much as fun as possible without any mention of consequences. The citizens mindlessly proceed with what the governments want. Similarly, the radio was used to fulfill the same purpose. Radio was another way for the government to promote a certain point of view in 1932. It repeats just like hypnosis when everyone gathers to listen.
