There have been steam engine trains trailing the United States in the early 1800’s. Many of the early ones ran only a few dozen miles. When the railways ran longer distances, the cost to build and later ride them were be extremely high. However, long distances were what Minnesota needed to keep up with the competitive and growing nation around it. “Construction began on the first track in 1861 in St. Paul and was completed in 1862.”
Automobiles. Telephones. Lightbulbs. These were some of the major technological innovations created during 1865 to 1920. These creations impacted many Americans, even to this day.
During the civil war there were many technological advances, many of which were on the Union’s behalf. The telegraph, was one of the best technological advances since it helped increase the North's power of communication. By 1862 the US military 1000000 messages sent by way of telegram. At the end of 1865 the union army had 6000 miles of insulated copper wire. The South lacked telegraphs and lacked advanced communication.
During the Gilded Age, America, and even parts of the world, were effected by new technological advancements made by American entrepeneurs and inventors. This includes the new steel making process (Bessemer Process), expansion of railroads across the country, the mass production of kerosene, and inventions of the lightbulb, AC and DC electricity, telegraph, the automobile, etc. Due to these advancements, travel was made more efficient, faster, and in some cases safer, everyday life was more efficient, and production was quicker. Without all of the advancements made during the time period, who knows what life would be like today. Would we have cell phones?
The Gilded Age brought America many different technological advancements such as the railroad system, kerosene, steel, and light bulbs. These advancements impacted the lives of people in America. The railroad system impacted the lives of American people by making travel much faster. Instead of the trip taking 6-7 months it can now take up to 10 days.
When people mention the industrial revolution, many think of the early 1900s when the surge of new technologies and industrial improvements began. From the changes in the technological use of materials like iron and steel that opened up new markets to new jobs and a booming economy, the United States was a force to be reckoned with. People reminisce with great pride on a time when the United States became a powerhouse of one-third of the global products used internationally. However, with good comes bad and a major issue that still affects us today is the depletion of natural resources. While technological improvement opened up new markets they are also the reason for environmental destruction and irreversible damage.
The Civil War and New Technologies The Civil War was a major turning point in American History. The Civil War began on April 12, 1861 and ended on April 9, 1865. With the war many new technologies emerged due to the need of better weapons and ways to help give the Union an advantage in the war. During the war there were five thousand new patents on new inventions.
Although, some of the technology failed in its ineffectiveness, other technological innovations such as weaponry and communicative devices not only caused bloodier wars, but such innovative advancements have also influenced the results of the Civil War. In order to understand the significance of technological innovation, one must know the different kinds of advanced technology such as the tools the people used for combat, communication, transportation, and survival. The Union and the Confederates used weaponry such as guns, rockets, grenades, and mines for better accuracy and efficient shooting. They also used warships and floodlights for sinking and searching other ships.
Heading West Historical Report Life in the 1800’s was hard and very different from present day. From what they ate, how they made their food, to their struggles in the winter were unlike today 's problems. You might be surprised that they ate the same meals almost everyday. Their cooking tools were way less advanced. For example, they used old school stoves, fireplaces, and heavy iron pots for normal everyday cooking.
The importance of new inventions, railroads, and clipper ships in the Northern economy were very important to people and trade alike. The new inventions were important, such as the telegraph and the mechanical reaper, helped to transmit messages and cultivate more land quicker respectively. The telegraph allowed communication to be brought over long distances, it’s first message being ,” What hath God wrought” from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. Railroads were important to the economy by the speed and time it took them to ship goods.
Very well written, I agree that with quick technological advancements there comes a price. The more advanced technology becomes the quicker we become isolated from one another and develop our own world in a sense. I think this was especially true during the Victoria era with the multitude of inventions that were being produced. We could almost say that the way that the lady would have seen the world could have been similar to someone who had belonged to a bygone era.
The innovation of the Gilded Age was a time in American history that was made possible by a number of factors. Some of these same factors also gave rise to Industrial Capitalism. The labor availability of the time, the government;s laissez faire policies, railroads, and new ways to produce manufacturing all became fuel for the fire of Industrial Capitalism. For example, the labor availability gave way to cheap labor which helped increase the profits of those in power. On top of that, the railroads transformed the entire economy by transporting cheaply made products all over the country.
The gilded age was one of the most important times historically for America. There were many technological advancements which played a key role into how our lives are now. Some of these advancements were electricity, better railroad systems, and mass production. The first technological advancement of the gilded age was electricity. Electricity allowed factories to power new machines which could produce their products faster than people.

Post World War I, the era marked the beginning of modern times with new and worthy developments. More and more people were abetted to live in the cities, most people had jobs, therefore money to spend, and they spend it by “having a good time” (McNeese,88). While the society got rid of their miseries; sciences, arts, and businesses renewed themselves by evolving. This research paper briefly gives examples from advances in technology, transportation, and entertainment while discussing their benefits to the United States.
