Even with the US creating deadly weapons, America still made many advances in other technology. The next computers were the first electronic digital computer and the Mark 1 computer created by Harvard that was “capable of finding the product of two 11-digit numbers in just three seconds” (Marsh). America also made advancements in television to have color and made a Polaroid camera which could print a picture in 60 seconds (Marsh). New cookware like Tupperware was created to help store and keep things good for longer. The microwave was invented by accident and would take two more decades to be ready for consumer use (Bean-Mellinger). Cooking was also made easier by boxed cake mix coming to the market (Bellis). Entertainment was added in a variety of ways from toys to music. Music was added to by the invention of the jukebox in 1948. New toys were made like Silly Putty, the Slinky, and Frisbee (“1940s: The Greatest Generation.”). Many new tools were made as well to help with people's lives. Tools from the 1940’s range from kitty litter, velcro, aerosol cans, to even scuba tanks (Bellis). Duct tape which many people use everyday was created in 1942 (“1940s: The Greatest Generation.”). All of the inventions and technology from the 40’s advanced the military, created new electronics, and added things to everyday life that we still use today. America discovered a way to make synthetic rubber to mass produce jeeps and made inventions like the microwave and duct tape. They even created the deadliest weapon to have ever existed. If all of the inventions from the 40’s were never made, who knows what life would be like
