Losing the ability to choose or the freedom as an individual in society isn't the best way of living. Technology is used every day in our lives, but what if that technology took over and controlled us and our way of living every day? Evolution has brought us to using technology almost every day and it takes over our choice and decisions could lead to some consequences. As humans, the way technology is used may limit our ability to make decisions in our daily lives. Sci-fi literature shows many fears of technology bringing our ability to choose to an end.

In the Giver, choice and freedom is limited and is controlled by rules that restrict some freedom. Being in a group that uses specific ways to keep their community equal and engaging, could result in some misfits and consequences. For instance, children are assigned jobs for the rest of their lives. The community has ceremonies to assign their age, their own jobs, until they eventually go to the house of the old. In a scene of the movie, babies are seen being taught by an AI and in front of a screen. The lifestyle of the community is mostly controlled by technology and technology teaches the kids so they are always in front of a screen and no one has the choice to be taught by a person. In addition, people's lives are basically put in front of them, so they don’t get to choose how they live. For example, the way that society chooses to live isn't the most productive and the technology that they use makes their lifestyle too easy and unproductive. Also, people use technological chairs to entertain and they don't realize what's going on. Clearly, with the technology they use in their lifestyle, the citizens are restricted from making their own
