The future is here. Everyone in America has a handheld, portable device that can take pictures, send messages, call someone around the globe, play games, search the web, browse social media and so much more. The ever-evolving technology is changing the dynamics in the home. From education, to communication, to media, today’s technology has made an impact on American families.
Education plays a major role in the family as technology advances.“Parents see kids learning more at a younger age than anyone ever thought was possible”(Guest, 1). Babies under the age of one have already mastered the “swipe” across all touch screen devices. A plethora of entertaining learning games are all over app stores. “Teenagers now spend more time sending text messages from their cell phones than actually talking on them.”(Rosin, 1) Even calling people is not the norm of today. No one wants to spend their precious time talking when they can just send a quick text. “Time spent using communication technology was associated with greater internalizing symptom severity, identity distress, existential anxiety, and peer aggression”(Cyr, 1) People are hiding behind a screen, saying things they might not say in person.
