Theodore Robert Cowell was born on November 24th, 1946 in Burlington, Vermont. He was the son of a single mother which at the time was not looked upon greatly. Because of this he was bullied being called a “bastard”. He grew up in his grandparents’ house with his mother, he thought that his mother was his sister when he was younger and that his grandparents were his biological parents. It is reported that his grandfather was abusive which many believe could have had an effect on Ted growing up. In 1951 Eleanor (Ted’s mother/sister) married Johnnie Bundy thus give the name many know today to belong to one of the most famous serial killers in America, Ted Bundy. Ted had a generally good upbringing in which he went to school had friends, was happy, popular, and intelligent. Then when he was in high school he became more secluded, less popular, and lost his confidence. At the age of 20 he fell in love with an older girl named Stephanie who into the relationship became bored and thought he was to childish and immature resulting in a break up. “Bundy’s lack of confidence and tendency toward manipulation had ruined the relationship,” (twisted minds, paragraph 5).
