The environment has a huge effect on health in general, but when people live together in a community it is even more beneficial to have a strong environmental health to ensure a healthy and nutritious community. In the TED Talk A guerilla gardener in South Central Los Angeles, Ron Finley discusses the struggle one has in a community like Los Angeles and how they live in a food dessert. Although Finley is from a different area and older age, he uses strong pathos throughout his talk to engage and convince his audience to make a change towards making a more organic community for the sake of their health and overall benefits for the community that would likely convince CU students to hope for a change in their current and future community as well. …show more content…

Finley grew up in LA and surrounding his city was fast food and unhealthy options. His environment was not only fattening but non-beneficial in any form to his community’s health or well-being. Finley decided it was time to change this not only for himself but for his community. On a strip of lawn on the side walk he began digging and planting fruits and vegetables, and slowly the community would stop to aid him in this mission. Not only was Finley providing healthier food options for anyone who wanted to have that option, but he was keeping kids off the street in LA by giving them work or something to look forward to, by taking care of the garden. Although he did however use pathos as his plan of action he included ethos and logos throughout the entirety as well. His emotions spewed through in every line he would say, there was no questioning how passionate Finley feels towards this movement. He appealed in the emotional way to parents and even to a young generation. He explained how many kids would be sick or unhealthy due to the limited food options throughout their community. Not only would children have unhealthy lifestyles from the very beginning of their lives but the adults would be struggling just as much. As many young adults want to move to big cities to make a life for themselves it was important for Finley to express the hardships and things that may seem unimportant but really have a negative effect on oneself in that type of community. His emotions towards this subject pulled his audience in and made them convinced to make a change, and bring the community closer
