Franklin Delano Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 to April 12, 1945) was the 32nd American president who led the United States through the Great Depression and World War II, greatly expanding the powers of the federal government through a series of programs and reforms known as the New Deal. Stricken with polio in 1921, Roosevelt (commonly known as FDR) spent much of his adult life in a wheelchair. A whole generation of Americans grew up knowing no other president, as FDR served an unprecedented four terms in office. Roosevelt’s social programs reinvented the role of government in Americans' lives, while his presidency during World War II established the United States' leadership on the world stage. Roosevelt made the New Deal.
Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858. As a child, he was also timid and nervous. In fact, he had to be tutored at home by his Aunt, Annie Bulloch. He lived in a house with two sisters and a brother. His father made his fortune by being a banker and importer of glass.

He is known for the “Ohio Gang”, a group of his friends that he put into power in the United States government, simply because they were his friends. This was probably not the best idea, as one of his friends leased government land to oil barons for a huge sum of money. As a boy he always wanted to be a naturalist, which is a scientist that studies and examines nature, and as a president he never forgot this dream of his. When he was a young man, he saw how humans can harm the enviroment. He then decided to dedicate himself to protect the wildlife and our natural resources. After 25th president William McKinley had been killed, Theodore was made president, but even with this responsibility, he did not forget about his love for nature and the promise he made to protect it.

After traveling in Africa and Europe, he tried to win the Republican presidential nomination in 1912. In 1910, on a speaking tour in the West, Roosevelt proclaimed a policy of New Nationalism.

He loved it so much he invested $14,000 in cattle and started a ranch south of neighboring towns of Little Missouri and Medora. Teddy wasn’t the typical cowboy he was 5-foot-8 and 135 pounds, he was anything but robust because of him shaving his beard and brushing his teeth. The other cowboys thought he was to clean and dressed too nice to be a cowboy.

Roosevelt is, from the looks of it, a charming and very active person, who has faced problems with this country head on and fixed them. He has already been president before now, and he already knows what this country will need in the future when he becomes president once again. The Square deal, he passed, had already helped workers with problematic owners, from making sure the business was a safe place to work, kept riots from starting up, made it that they just needed to work eight hours, and kept business owners from gaining more power by breaking them into smaller businesses. Teddy was said to be a sickly boy, bus as a teenager her was involved in a gymnastics and weightlifting program so that he could become a stronger man.
