Teen Dating Violence: Annotated Bibliography

My experience of writing this paper was relatively pleasant. I really enjoyed that the entire assignment was broken up into small pieces like the topics and references, media source and research section, and the annotated bibliography. Sometimes I can tend to procrastinate so it was nice being forced to submit small pieces bit by bit so the workload didn’t pile up and get me stressed out right before it was due. I feel like I really did well learning about my topic. Teen dating violence has been something that I haven’t really known a whole lot about. Therefore, I think I did well learning more and becoming educated on this topic. Although I spent a significant amount of time researching, I wish I would’ve looked at the topic from different angles and researched more specific aspects of teen dating violence such as the impact of technology and social media on relationships as well as what environmental settings affect teen dating violence. All of the previous components of this project were extremely helpful. Every component involved was necessary and really lessen the workload in the long term. Although a couple assignments were more tedious and difficult, such as the annotated bibliography, it really made it easier to reach conclusions and relate topics to research. I would have done all of the steps of this project regardless of whether or not they are required, it made it easier to have them required so I really began to know my topic and sources inside and out. My views on this topic have not changed. I have had a general opinion on teen dating violence and researching the topic more reinforced that belief. According to McLeod (2015), research shows that peer-facilitation is effective in teaching about healthy relationships to prevent teen dating violence. Reviving Ophelia shows an extreme situation where a program like the one studied could’ve been helpful. If peers or even school faculty administered a program to educate students on what a healthy relationship is and how to deal with one if it isn’t, maybe Elizabeth could have sought help sooner. Additionally, even teens not in the abusive teenager could be more proactive about the situation. For example, after Mark hits Elizabeth at school in his car, all of their peers find out about what happen. Many of their peers begin to talk behind Elizabeth's back while she is away from school for a couple days to recover. Upon her return, the students stare at her, they whisper, and they even eventually post a picture of her bloody face on the internet with the caption “Where art thou Romeo?”. A preventative program could help with how the abuse is addressed and maybe even ellivate fears associated with
