After reading, The Other Wes Moore, it intrigued me how so many of our young people are growing up in families where the parent or parents cannot provide a suitable environment that provides fundamental resources. This book talks about two males that could have ended up with the same fate only if there had not been any assistance to guide one of them on a different path. It is evident that our environment is an essential factor in how we adapt and attain the life that we live. With limited resources, our youth has become a statistic of their environments. As these generations continuously extend, minorities have become the target of a huge issue such as teen pregnancy.

The other Wes Moore had met a girl on the bus one day. Wes and the girl happened to become more than friends rather quickly. “After school they would head to each other’s houses, since neither had parents at home during the day. Within two months of their meeting, Alicia had told Wes that her period was late. Four tests and eight matching plus signs later, it was confirmed. They were going to be parents.” (Moore 99) The other Wes felt like he wasn’t ready to be a father though. “The idea of becoming a father depressed Wes, but he wasn’t sure why. He didn’t have to worry about feeling alone or like a pariah. Wes and Alicia’s situation was anything but exceptional.” (Moore 100) Even though Alicia was pregnant with Wes’s child he still went out and proceeded to be with other girls. That could really be a huge help to make their communities better so the children could stay in school and continue with their education without having to deal with having a child so young and having to take care of that child while trying to juggle school at the same
