Prior to start of the 1900’s there was many discussion on consent especially amongst young teenage girls. The argument can be traced back to the late 19th century. It wasn’t until a debate was sparked do to a law set in 1891 which was on whether the law had violated the British government. It was when the native Indians had set the age of consent lower than what British people wanted it to be. This sparked much debate because in the earlier times people were more afraid of change or challenging it. In the U.S. anyone who was opposed to resetting the age of consent to 16, believed that humans from other racist matured quicker than others. It be seen quite obviously that depending on the area that the girls grew up in what kinds consent they would be exposed to. Lowering the age of consent to 16 put these teenage girls in higher risk of being harmed and in many cases part of sexual violence. However in the 1930s the belief that the age of consent was 16 was quickly being pushed away do to the growing economic, social and cultural independence. The trend that teenage girls had to experience sex play at young age in order to achieve adulthood. You can see a trend of teenage girls saying they are in love with the men they had sex with. Judges often used this as a way to ignore rape charges. Seeing this downward trend, legislators decided to not act by not reducing the age of consent. This registered our cultural as being filled with teenage girls being sexually attractive, and even more sexual active nut according to law was seen as unavailable.
