Several professional goals have supported my decision to join an MSW program. I have considered opening a personal practice where I can conduct client care of my own volition as well as the possibility of working with telehealth-based therapy groups to connect with a broad range of clients. I also have aspirations of working with the LGBTQIA+ community. I have several family members who are part of the LGBTQIA+ and feel passionate about advocating for the young members of this group to find inner strength and agency amidst turbulent periods. Upon completing this program I plan to work with individuals seeking support, guidance, and personal growth. To fortify this work, I intend to attain clinical licensure. Although social work practices can ameliorate client troubles, I would also like the ability to find possible solutions within diagnoses, further evaluation, and treatment. Utilizing the Advanced Clinical Practice concentration offered in this program will allow me to become familiar with working in clinical settings and apply my coursework knowledge to real work situations. A crucial piece I look for when entering an academic program or workplace is the ability to create real, tangible change. Too often in this field, we put band-aids over broken bones due to legality or scope and fail to address some issues to their fullest extent. My role in providing behavioral counseling to my clients was contingent on a positive connection with the child, their family, and the family team. More often than not, multiple members of the overall group were from various cultural backgrounds.
