The short story “The Monkey’s Paw” and the movie adapted from the text both have multiple similarities and differences; this includes the characters. There are four main characters in the short story, which include, Mr. White, Mrs. White, Herbert White, and Sergeant-Major Morris. In the text Mr. White is depicted as an older man that believes the tale behind the monkey’s paw and falls in the path of its destruction. He seems to be quite slower at catching on to certain things compared to Mrs. White and tends to make dangerous decisions, as shown in the game of chess at the beginning of the short story.
People always look back in the past. The Tell-Tale Heart and Ambush are two stories that look back on their main character’s actions. The Tell-Tale Heart, by Edgar Ellen Poe, is a riveting story in which the protagonist talks about how he kills a man. In Ambush, by Tim O’Brien, the main character also talks about how he kills a man, but he is more regretful about it. The tone and mood of the two stories are similar and it affects the way the readers understand similarly.

There are many differences between Edgar Allan Poe’s two short stories, “The Tell Tale Heart” and “The Black Cat,” including their resolutions, confessions, and the narrators’ reasons for telling their stories. First of all, one story is a cliff-hanger, and has no resolution, while the other has a resolution. In “The Tell Tale Heart”, the narrative ends at the climax of the story, which is when the narrator confesses his crime to the police. However, in “The Black Cat”, the resolution is revealed in the beginning of the story, when he explains that he will be executed for his crimes. In addition, in one tale, the narrator confesses his offense, while the other crime is exposed by accident.

In the book, the main character, Rebecca, is initially from the Big Apple. She is forced to move to New Orleans with a “relative” once her father traveled to China for work. Little did Rebecca know what was in store for her in the upcoming months that she would be staying in the old-fashioned city. The snobby children, with a rich history, practically rule everywhere they go in the area, from the school to the streets.

If it’s based on in the day people expect things that aren’t dark, but if it’s during the night you will be expecting something dark and ominous.

In the story, the narrator at first seems normal and composed when he set his mind to kill the “old man.” Then his attitude changes when he almost got away with murder. Poe uses tone to show the narrator’s dynamic behavior.
