story, “Tell Them Not to Kill Me” by Juan Rulfo the theme of the story seems to center around vengeance vs. forgiveness as well as mercy vs. wrath is demonstrated throughout the various choices that the main protagonist made such as murder, irresponsibility, and cowardice. As the story tension resolve vengeance trumps forgiveness as well as prevailing wrath prevailing over mercy in the story. Juan Rulfo’s fictional short story, “Tell Them Not to Kill Me” on page 386, was a good read, but it had a dark tone throughout the story. The story follows the main protagonist who later settled down with his son after being on the run for killing his fellow neighbor over a petty cattle dispute. He killed Don Lupe, Juvencio’s fellow neighbor/farmer by driving a machete through the skull because Don. Juvencio Nava is asking his son Justino for help to be saved from death. Justino the main protagonist son refuses to help. There was a flash back to the time Juvencio killed his neighbor who was also a farmer. Juvencio lives the rest of his life in fear. The story has a lot of other tensions vs. conflicts like good vs. evil. Some other good tensions vs. conflicts would be right vs. wrong, old vs. young, vengeance vs. forgiveness, mercy vs. wrath, morals vs. immoral, Justice vs. injustice, rights vs. responsibilities, respect vs. trespassing, hatred vs. compassion, hope vs. reality humane vs. inhumane, murderous vs. civilized, heaven vs. hell, suffering vs. not suffering, tranquility vs. torture, peace vs. war, actions vs. consequences, uncivilized
