Tentree Company Profile

Company Profile The company we have chosen to discuss is a Canadian company called TenTree . TenTree is a clothing and accessory company, that plants 10 trees for every item a customer purchased. The TenTree Company has three main commitments they want to succeed in, they are stewardship, transparency, and community. The first commitment is stewardship which is "ensuring that tentree is both socially and environmentally responsible, extending both to our production and reforestation processes" (TenTree, 2014). The second commitment is transparency which means "making sure you are informed and proud of each purchase made. [TenTree] pride[s] [itself] in being an open book when it comes to [their] practices" (TenTree, 2014). The final commitment

In the planting aspect, TenTree wants to have "incredible impact on the ecosystems" (TenTree, 2014) in doing so they plant trees that are local to the areas they plant in. TenTree "use "pioneer" species to ensure survival and often plant more than 10 trees per item to guarantee [the] trees SURVIVE for every item sold" (TenTree, 2014), they also plant where the greatest need in required including Madagascar and Ethiopia. TenTree hopes "everyone can relate to the need for tree planting and the incredible impact it can have on the environment; an impact that does not simply end once the 10 trees have been planted" (TenTree, 2014). TenTree hopes that the effort they produce will have an abundant of "social and environmental benefits of each tree planted [and it] will likely outlast any tentree product purchased" (TenTree, 2014). Manufacturing is an area that can be difficult to implement green/environmental beliefs, but TenTree has done that. In their manufacturing they "pursue social equity and environmental sustainability" (TenTree, 2014), where in other manufacturing they are " oppressive and irresponsible" (TenTree. 2014). TenTree feels that they must be accountable for their impact on the planet and by " believ[ing] that [they] are capable of changing this; [they] believe that it is [there] responsibility to do so" (TenTree, 2014). TenTree's main goal is to "work with facilities across the globe to encourage environmental stewardship and socially responsible behaviour" (TenTree, 2014). Social impact is a huge area for TenTree. They work with communities and not for profits to plant trees in areas that have been affected by deforestation. In order to ensure reforestation does not continue to be a problem TenTree works on providing education for sustainable practices to all planting communities. The trees planted with TenTree are done to solve the deforestation crisis. "The impact of these trees extends far beyond the environment; it provides communities with jobs, sustenance, and a future"(TenTree, 2014).
