The TeslaRoadster 2 With the new Tesla roadster announced on November 17, 2017, it leaves very interesting numbers that it can produce. Tesla claims that it can do 0-60 in 1.9 seconds, with a top speed of 250 mph (402 kph) and an 8.8 quarter mile and a The car has a 200 kWh that is capable of doing 620 miles (997 km). It left people speechless at its announce. The roadster can achieve this because of its AWD (all wheel drive) letting all four wheels spin for maximum acceleration, the big battery is powered by and the how electric motors can generate torque instantly, and also how it claims to be the fastest accelerating production car. With the car being electric powered and not gas as most cars, it functions differently. The car runs of electric …show more content…
In the Tesla Model S the motors spin at 18,000rpm, so we can theorize that the motors in the Roadster can spin at a greater RPM. The motor can spin this fast because of how electric motor works. The battery sends a direct current to an inverter that converts the direct current to alternating current. The alternating current helps the motor turn because of how electromagnetism works. The magnetic pole in the motor flips from north to south. This makes the motor spin because of how it is being attracted to opposite pole and is being repelled from the same pole. The poles switch constantly because of how alternating current is like a wave it goes from a positive to a negative. With alternating current, the amplitude and frequency can be adjusted. So depending on how hard you press on the throttle it changes the frequency; how fast the motor can spin, and the amplitude; how strong the current flows through. This is why the Roadster can have instant maximum torque because of how the motor can spin at any rpm. Also with the electric motor, it can turn into an electric generator by reversing how the electric motor works. It is done by the Roadsters kinetic force being converted energy. The kinetic force of the wheels makes the motor spin itself without using the power of the battery which then, in turn, charges it. This helps the car get better distance and better brake life since you don't need to use as much since …show more content…
This is a very expensive car for a normal consumer. But comparing other supercars that are close to the 0-60 the roadster can do the closet is the Bugatti Chiron that cost over $3,000,000. Comparing prices the Tesla Roadster is cheaper for what you get off the car. Let's say that you modify a car that can achieve close to the same 0-60 time that the Tesla claims like my dream car Nissan GT-R with the Alpha 16 performance package costing $61,499+ (the price is from the alpha 10, not 16 since it’s included, and not including the price of the car), that can do 0-60 time of 1.63 seconds with 1,840 horsepower and 1,283 foot-pound of torque, which the torque of the GTR does not compare to the Roadsters of 7,376 foot-pounds of torque. It may have a faster 0-60 time by 3 milliseconds but it does not have the comfort, reliability and is street legal that the compared to the Tesla Roadster claiming to be the accelerating production
