History History is important to Texarkana. Many people influenced and made Texarkana, Arkansas what it is today. James “Jim” Bowie, Colonel Gus Knobel, James Miller, and Governor James Conway are some of the founding fathers of Texarkana (Map Tour). They began the journey of making Texarkana the city it is today. A large diverse population used to travel through the area that is now Texarkana, Arkansas. These people also played a vital role in how Texarkana would develop. The immigrants and other people would travel through this area in order to get to Texas and would sometimes stop here for the night.
