The Texas oil boom was a period of dramatic change and economic growth in Texas in the early 20th century. It began with the discovery of a large petroleum reserve near Beaumont, Texas. The discovery was revolutionary in an age of rapid regional development and industrialization that has few parallels in U.S. history. Texas became one of the leading oil producing states in the U.S. The nation soon became the top producer of petroleum, and by 1940, Texas dominated U.S. production. Some historians even define the beginning of the world's Oil Age as the beginning of this era in Texas. The documentation of the surveys from the oil development is what I have found today. Some of these masses penetrated thousands of feet of sediments to reach the surface. Others were stopping on the way. The Van oil field was located in Van Zandt County, Texas on the top of a domed up lift. Oil field geologists believed this up lift was on top of an enormous salt mass at great depths. Theron Wasson, Chief Geologist of The Pure Oil Company, outlined a method of valuing individual leases for the preliminary evaluation. He also defined the final evaluation at the end of the first five-year period from the start of the agreement. The individual leases were valued based on their contained acre-feet of Woodbine formation. After adopting this method, oil companies obtained excellent results. The Pure Oil Company, Shell Petroleum Corporation, the Texas Company, Sun Oil Company, and the Humble Oil and Refining Company were all participants in the Van Joint Account.
