In Austin, Texas, members of the Texas State Board of Education use persuasion to gain votes for their personal beliefs on whether teaching methods and textbook standards should be revised or upheld. Among the board members are citizens who are a variety of educators. Also, there are experts who come to voice their knowledge of new findings, and debate about old and new educational facts. Although there were experts, there was much debate on spoken facts. Some members and experts used skewed information. There were many points of views, most of which had some questionable moments. With the aid of Cynthia Dunbar, another chair member, McLeroy also fights to keep his chair among the Board. Although, I am not religious, I prefer that religion not be a hindrance in education. I do not mind these beliefs, but when they prevent students from finding scientific or historic evidence that contradicts these beliefs then they are putting a holt on education. Students should be able to decide for themselves. For example, students should be able to learn the possibilities of creation and find the evidence they see fit.
While on Board, he and Dunbar try to change the science and history curriculum. In the science dispute, there was a bit of a stand still when neither side of the argument could provide factual evidence for human creation. As well as in History, Dunbar encouraged a textbook full of error and fallacy. Some members were confusing fact with opinion and promoting racism against Mexican Americans. At this point, I felt embarrassed for those who were pro textbook when one of the members, a Mexican American, shot down the book and flew through all its
