On average, 8.6 trillion text messages are sent a year ("11 Facts About Texting and Driving"). Whether it is a simple “k” or a smiley face emoji, I believe texting while driving is not safe. Whether they are behind the wheel receiving a text or on the receiving end of a car, many people obtain injury. Texting while driving is very dangerous and laws should be more stringent upon it. To begin, not only the people behind the wheel are getting hurt. Other people in the car or on the outside of the car are also at risk of getting severely injured. Texting makes a crash twenty-three times more likely ("11 Fact About Texting and Driving"). Children, especially are at high risk in these types of situations. Some may argue that kids shouldn't be in the street, and even so, should be wary of cars. Drivers are taught to obey the rules and keep both eyes on the road at all times. The problem is that these laws aren’t enforced to the degree they are supposed to be. We need them to be enforced everywhere, including homes. seventy-seven percent of teen’s adults tell them not to text while driving, but the adults themselves “do it all the time” ("11 Fact About Texting and Driving"). This problem is caused by rules that are not enforced throughout the state, or country, there is little to no chance that these rules are enforced at home.
