The speech we have chosen is called Texting and Driving Persuasive Speech. While this speech may not be given by a famous person we feel that the speaker does a good job at discussing this public epidemic called “Texting and Driving”. We chose this speak out of all the others because it has a specific goal to persuade and inform the audience. We can see this with the speaker’s strong use of pathos starting in the beginning to his use of logos carried out through the speak. This speaker was also a good choice in our minds because he established ethos right away, by stating all the research he has done in order to give this speech. We know that our classmates know it is dangerous and that it kills, but we believe that knowing something and believing it can happen are two different things. Therefore, knowing something is dangerous to others, as well as, ourselves is not enough to stop them from doing it. So we may not have to tell our audience about the comparison of texting and driving to drinking and driving. However, we can focus on sharing with them the impact on others. Our speaker discusses the impact it will have on the driver we might end up hitting, whether it is a mother, teen, or a whole family injured or killed. This is a good point to focus on because we do not often think about the others involved around us. We also will be able to inform our audience about the legal percussions involved in texting and driving which may deter them from picking up their phone. We would need to provide the class with statistics that have happened to show why doing this is a very bad idea that can lead to very bad consequences. Many would understand that the speaker is trying to get the point across that texting and driving is a very bad idea, however we would like to point out the speaker’s ethos and logos to emphasize the importance of this issue to the speaker. Others may not know that the speaker could have possibly been in or known someone who has been in an accident due to texting and driving or if the speaker was the person who was texting and driving and faced many of the terrible consequences that resulted from an accident or legal percussions.
