The game I’m choosing to explain and analyze is the game of basketball. Basketball is a simultaneous game and the players on the same team have common goals, but players on opposing teams have conflicting interests. The game is played repeatedly and has five different opponents at any given time. There is strategic uncertainty between the opposing teams. The games rules are fixed beforehand and there cannot be an agreement because it features a zero-sum result. Basketball is a game that features ten players on a court, five on five. There are four quarters that are twelve minutes long each, meaning the game lasts forty-eight minutes. There is a single ball that both teams want possession of when on the court. The team with the ball is called the offense and the team that doesn’t have the ball is called the defense. Both sides have a basket on the far side of the court. Each team’s offense is trying to put the ball in the basket of the defending team. Dribbling is the act of pushing the ball with your palm onto the ground, have the ball bounce, and wait for it to reach your palm again. Any violation of moving more than three steps is called a travel and results in the defending team getting the ball. Once you stop dribbling as a player you are not allowed to start the dribble again. You must either hold onto the ball, pass to a teammate, or shoot the ball into the hoop. Any violation of the last rule is called a double dribble and results in the other team getting the ball. If the ball is above the rim of the basket no player can touch it, if the offense interferes the ball is given to the defense. If the defense interferes with the ball above the rim the offense is given two points or three, depending on the type of
