Breakfast is a crucial part of teen’s diets, however 20 to 30 percent of teens decide to skip the most important meal of the day. Kids tend to skip breakfast when they are rushing out the door in the morning. Students are sleep deprived with all of the activities and homework they have day to day. When finally hitting the sheets and then hearing the alarm go off three hours later, teens are putting sleep before food first thing in the morning. Breakfast helps to keep kids energized, full, and focused throughout the day (“The Case for Eating Breakfast” 2015). Parents want to help their kids be healthy and succeed but it is hard to find healthy, cheap, and convenient breakfast alternatives on the grocery shelves. Fresh fruit can cost a fortune, especially if the kid has a big appetite. Poptarts are easy, but not nutritious. It is a battle either way. The Kellogg advertisement has many different themes an purposes. The biggest purpose if the ad is to show parents that the cereal is indeed healthy and nutritious. Frosted Mini Wheats contains eight layers of 100% whole grains and 40 grams of fiber per serving (“The Reigning Champ of Whole Grains & Fiber” 2014). The cereal is also low in fat and high in protein, vitamins, and minerals. This is exactly what is needed for a healthy, balanced breakfast (Banna 2015). The advertisement also has a purpose of convincing the audience that breakfast is important. The advertisement states, “Get your morning off to a great start with protein to help you rebuild and grains to help you recharge” (Kellogg Mini Wheats 2012).
