William Cullen Bryant is known as the Father of American Poetry. His classic poem is “Thanatopsis” - a word he created from the latin root which translates to seeing death. Indeed, this title reflects the speaker’s perspective on death. Through this poem, the author reveals a spiritual message through nature. As revealed in lines (1-2) the author states “To him who in the love of Nature holds Communion with her visible forms…” This displays the author’s love for nature and depicts the beauty and comfort one can find through it.
