The patients may often times self-diagnose themselves, therefore it can be beneficial and problematic, especially when the physician may be attempting to improve the patient. I can somewhat relate since healthcare costs are going up, medications are on the rise, and some don’t have health insurance. It seems for some, they can’t afford the physician’s office visit since some are on a set budget. While others just don’t want to go the physician until it’s too late. The most significant facet is just be proactive about your health and pay attention to the physician. Discuss your concerns with your physician or nurse practitioner. Yes, we all make mistakes, but not at the expense at your life necessarily. Don’t always trust what is the internet, like for example Wikipedia. Why would you take that chance? Tell the physician if you don’t comprehend or understand. Keep up with appointments even if they are yearly physicals. Since I am in the medical field, I continually learn on a daily and repetitive basis even as a patient. It’s a learning experience for everyone affected.
