In the children’s book Thank You Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco, Trisha, the main character, changes all because of help and motivation from her reading teacher Mr. Falker She had always loved reading and wanted to learn but she struggled a lot more than everybody else this made her a target for bullying. Her grandparents had a ceremony to have her start the adventure of reading.Trisha changes through the whole story. She starts as an excited, yet green young girl that wants to learn to read. In the middle she starts to think she is dumb and is no longer encouraged to learn to read because it was hard and people were being judgemental. In the end because of Mr. Falker, she is determined again and wants to learn to read. At the very end she actually becomes a book writer. She put her troubles aside and did what she wanted to do since kindergarten. Trisha was always in love with reading. She read with all of her family. This proves that other people made fun of her and she wasn’t able to read as well as everybody else. Because she was behind and people made fun of her she began to feel dumb she thought she was dumb all because she couldn’t read and other people were. One day she was sitting with her Grandma and explained to her how she felt and her grandma said “You are the smartest, quickest, dearest little thing ever”(1). They sat and held onto the grass as they looked at the stars. Then soon the grandparents died and the text said “But it was not long after that night that her grandma must have let go of the grass, because she went to where the lights were, on the other side.
