The past can repeat in the future, the past may not be exactly the same but it can have the similar circumstance. During the 1950’s McCarthyism had begun and Arthur Miller had begun to write his play The Crucible. Joseph McCarthy stimulated McCarthyism by going to court and accuse 205 people of being part of communist. People were terrified that they would be held for questioning about communism or that others are associated with communism which, became known as The Red Scare. McCarthyism had fallen when McCarthy wanted to investigate communist infiltration in the U.S. army and Dwight Eisenhower saw the fraud in him. In the play The Crucible, Rebecca Nurse takes a look at Betty (one of the other girls that danced in the woods) then tells Reverend Parris (the father of Betty and the minister of Salem’s church) he should call Reverend Hale and that “This will set us all to arguin” “in the society”,(Miller 26). This quote shows how Rebecca Nurse knows that the people of Salem are going to be horrified when they found out that there are witches in their town. The Red Scare had started the same way people were scared when Joseph McCarthy blamed people of being communist even if they were innocent. In Arthur Miller play The Crucible, Abigail leaves Salem. When the court saw the fraud in McCarthy they kick him out of being a Chairmanship from the Government Committee both Abigail and Arthur Miller lost their place in the court and ended up with nothing. The Salem Witch Trial and McCarthyism leaders both loss their control of the court.
