The 1998 film Elizabeth starring Cate Blanchett illustrates the struggles Queen Elizabeth faced during her reign as a Protestant queen in a Catholic England. Elizabeth is anointed queen in 1558 England. The country is divided into two religions: Catholic and Protestant. Elizabeth must prove to her people that a Protestant is fit to rule the country and everything comes down to one question of religion. Elizabeth is a wonderful and historically accurate reenactment of 16th century England and Queen Elizabeth’s issues, therefore proving that this film is more History than Hollywood. On September 7, 1533, Elizabeth was born from King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. The young queen was born into an unhealthy family and lived through a broken childhood. Elizabeth’s mother had been murdered by Henry VIII and then Henry went through a phase where he had many wives and tried to make her conceive a son (1). When Elizabeth’s father married his sixth wife, Catherine Parr, Elizabeth felt a deep connection with her.
