Slavery Abolitionist in America Slavery in America was really harsh and needed to come to an end. Abolitionist were the key to ending slavery in America. Abolitionist are people that were against slavery. People start to end slavery in America in 1830’s and was completed in 1865. This movement was really important because this gave African Americans freedom and other people freedom from all of the cruel things they had to go through.There were a lot of abolitionist in ending slavery in America but three where Frederick Douglass, David Walker, and William Lloyd Garrison. He died on May 24,1879 and was born on December 10, 1805. He helped form the New England Anti Slavery Society. William Lloyd Garrison came out with his own newspaper which was called The Liberator. His first reading was about ending slavery and giving slaves freedom. The reading was called ‘’Our country is our world-our countrymen are mankind.’’ ‘’William and Frederick Douglass made a series of 40 anti-union speeches in the Alleghenies.’’ William Lloyd Garrison was a good leader in the Abolitionist Movement, he would do whatever he could to stop slavery in America. Year after year he additionally added members to join his New England Anti Slavery Society, therefore helped the Abolitionist Movement get stronger. Abolitionist was the key to stopping slavery in America. Without abolitionist we couldn’t have done a better job of doing so. The Abolitionist Movement lead to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which was about giving freedom to the colored lead by Marthur Luther King Jr. After that Movement it lead to the Voting Right Act of 1965 which would give African Americans the freedom to vote above 18 years old which is stated in the 15th Amendment.
