An Indian whose life has changed after switching to a different school and has found amazing friends that care for who he is no matter his difference. The story “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie created a made-up character that represented himself and his life as an Indian throughout the book. He also wasn’t just making a book about himself but having two different worlds, both of how he was on the Reservation and Reardan. The character I am introducing is Junior and he is a fourteen-year-old boy, who lives on the Spokane Indian Reservation, he was born with hydrocephalus which is brain grease or too much water in the brain. For instance, Junior has always seen that throughout the comics that he’s drawn, Rowdy has always admired them and even says that it makes him get out of reality. “He [Rowdy] likes to [imagine] he lives inside the comic books. So I draw cartoons to make him happy, to give him other worlds to live inside.” Junior has known that Rowdy has had a difficult life and understood his struggles since everyone knows him only for his “revenge and fighting.” Junior has always liked Rowdy when he was more open towards Junior because he felt the safest than anyone. His actions were not only to reflect on Rowdy but himself as well because he hasn’t had a good life, was getting bullied by many kids, and had to relieve all the headaches he's had in the past. Junior never gave up on hope no matter how many people he had to lose. The importance of this character is not that he is the main character but the way he showed all the problems that not only he had to go through but Indians and all colored people even if he never truly said it, you can understand the stress. Sherman Alexie was sharing all his thoughts through a character he made up that represented him as a 14-year-old boy, which makes us understand more about the book since we are all at the age to realize the meaning behind every chapter. Junior’s character is the most relatable because we all have gone through some much as youngsters but we also can overcome fear, stress, anxiety, and more after just accepting who we are and loving ourselves without hiding ourselves from
