Friendship is a necessity in life. Without friendship, people would feel lonely and would not have that backbone to lean on in life. The novel called,The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Is a story that explains the life and friendship of two middle school age boys. Junior is an Indian boy that lives on a reservation. Then there’s Rowdy, an indian kid that is Junior's best friend.l. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, two boys start off with a splendid friendship. Junior switches to a rich white kids school called Wellpinit to get a better education. His best friend, Rowdy, gets mad at him so he punches him in the face so they don’t talk for a while. The two boys tried out for their school's basketball teams a couple months later into the school year. They each made it to the championship game and the two best friends square off. Junior had to play Rowdy because no one else on the team was brave enough. Wellpinit eventually won the game and the two boys went home after. This is a factor in the novel “ The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.” In the text on page 210 Rowdy screams outloud. “I hate you, Rowdy screamed.” The reason Rowdy said he hates him is that Junior supposedly killed his sister because he left the Indian Reservation so his sister left and she died in a fire. Later on in the novel, the two boys make it up. On page 230 Junior says” Rowdy and I played one on one for hours. We Played until dark. We played until the streetlight lit up the court. We played until the bats swooped down at our heads. We played until the moon was huge and golden and perfect in the dark sky. We didn’t keep score.” This shows how in the end best friend can make up although, they will still remember what broke up their friendship the last
