Woodrow Wilson was the 28th president of the United States, who served two terms from 1913 to 1921 and led America through World War I. Wilson was born on December 28, 1856, in Staunton, Virginia, United States (Historic World Leaders). Wilson grew up in the South and recieved many degrees leading to him working at a University. Later in Wilsons life he became the governor of New Jersey for two years but was elected for president in 1912 (Life Before Presidency). Woodrow Wilson was an extremely successful president who helped form the League of Nations and used his Fourteen Points to negotiate the Treaty of Versailles that put an end to war. His goals were to keep the United States neutral in war, to keep in mind the rights of Americans and protect those rights. His other goals for war were to build up a United States Army in case they needed it and try to end war in peace (Historic World Leaders). The United States and Britain were close trading partners so once Germany began to have problems with Britain it effects Wilson's goal to keep the United States out of war. America lasted about three years staying out of the war but once Germans attacked and sunk two ships with Americans on them, United States turned against Germany. The United States decided to take the step to enter war when America received the Zimmermann Telegram that was intercepted by Britain. The telegraph had a note from Germany to Mexico telling them to start a war with the United States to keep them away from Germany
