Wikipedia is a search engine used all around the world that has articles on almost every single topic you can think of. Wikipedia has been ranked for being in the top five for most popular website (Wikipedia.com). From middle schoolers, to high- schoolers, Wikipedia is how many students get by. Most students are told by teachers not to used Wikipedia because is it not a reliable website. However, Wikipedia is a site that anyone can edit, that means that a big number of articles can be written and managed daily so that it can stay up to date on its accuracy. Since the articles are constantly being revised that means the accuracy is being corrected. I believe if there is an article with information that is false, someone scholarly will come and revise it. The main contributor to making edits on the article I chose seemed scholarly to me. In fact, the main contributor to this page was Doctor W, and his personal page tells me he has his Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology. (Wikipedia.com) Since anyone can edit an entry at any time, chances are that whatever entry you are looking at is as up to date as possible. The good thing about constantly updating, the information on a page stays relevant. An encyclopedia book can become outdated and worthless quite quickly. That will never happen when you have constant updating and verification done all the time. You can browse Wikipedia with confidence, knowing that all of the information contained on the site is accurate and relevant. Wikipedia articles are well-rounded and worked on by a number of different contributors. The article I chose has about 567 edits, which average about 1 edit per day, 11 edits per week, and 136 edits per year (Wikipedia.org). Having an article that is well edited is important for me when I am doing research. That tells me that the article is being edited for accuracy, and the articles information is valid.
