In the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, chapter 11 proposes that Muff Potter was Dr. Robinson’s killer. The chapter starts out with the day after the murder of Dr. Robinson. Before that day Tom and Huck fled from the graveyard. Then Tom and Huck found out that most of the town was going to the graveyard to look for Muff Potter. Once at the graveyard they find Muff Potter there with the knife laying on the ground. The constable of the town confronts Muff Potter of the killing, but Muff says he didn't do it. Muff asks Injun Joe to tell them that he didn't do it but Injun Joe says he did and he explains how it happened that night.
