December 7, 2012 Is a mix of different cultures such as beliefs practices is the combining of different and often contradictory beliefs. It also blends practices of various collections of thoughts. Syncretism involves the merging and analogizing several traditions, especially in the theology and mythology of religion. This then asserts an underlying unity and allowing for a collective approach to other faiths. Syncretism also occurs commonly in expressions of arts and culture as well as in politics. Roman culture imported serval different elements and characteristic of nations they conquered into their own culture. The Hellenistic world fell to the Romans in a battle at Actium where Octavian defeated The Ptolemaic fleet. All though the Hellenistic period was around for only a relatively short period of time, the culture and intellect of the Hellenistic period has been influencing writers, artisans, readers, politicians and scientists ever since. An example of text that became popular is “The Aeneid”. A way to show that its popularity became prominent through Hellenistic influence is that the Aeneid contains Stoicism. Stoicism states that emotions or fear arise from false judgement, and this philosophy was created in the Hellenistic period. The Egyptians also show their culture in the Roman’s. The Egyptians had several gods, this translated into Roman culture where they also had numerous gods. By conquering the Egyptians the Romans gained wealth by taking their agriculture practices, further improving them and creating profit. They also gained skilled warriors from the Egyptian army. The Egyptians art can also be reflected in ancient Roman
