622 Words3 Pages
When the sun sets, most people are in bed, however the people sleeping are missing out the beauty of the night but they do not it realize it. Likewise, in “The Allegory of the Cave”, written by Plato, the enlightened philosopher argues that humanity is covered by a mask and only a lucky handful are worthy of being rulers or receiving praise. Plato’s analogies, metaphors, and tone give the reader the opportunity to understand Plato’s purpose, assumptions, and supporting claims. According to Plato, sight, touch, hearing, and smell are not enough to be able to distinguish the reality from the idealism. Plato states that we humans live in a materialistic world like walking zombies. Although we are present, we are not fully aware of our surroundings.
