George Orwell’s Animal Farm presents a farm that has been overpowered by its abused animals. They try to create their utopian community filled with justice and fairness for everyone. Soon enough one species, the pigs, rise above the other animals and being to dictate. Thus breaking the initial vision for the atmosphere on the farm. Orwell’s use of pigs, through metaphor and allusion, to portray key figures in the Russian Revolution explain their true character and role in this event. Pigs are selected to represent Molotov and especially Stalin because the negative connotations of this animal, when applied to humans, do not create a flattering image. This has the capability of constructing influential ideas pertaining to the protagonist of this incident. In addition the allusion associations a human with a character, enabling Orwell to advocate the resemblances among each set. Both of the devices are essential and are used efficiently throughout Animal Farm. They are necessary because they conceal what Orwell is expressing about the actual person. To add on, he may have dreaded the possible consequences, so he cleverly uses an allusion to mask his views. In spite of that, these devices are used meritoriously since Orwell’s perspective is still comprehended. He clearly conveys his opinion of each individual, regardless if it is a marvelous or an immoral judgment. George Orwell embodies leaders by means of metaphor and allusion, proposing that they are pigs. This animal has an undesirable affiliation signifying what Orwell deduces about the individuals. Stalin can be labeled as materialistic, wanting more and more extravagances, similar to a pig’s desire for a superfluous amount of food.
