What is the American dream? The American dream is "that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement." - James Truslow Adams. The American dream can be defined in many different ways. Thus being, can people achieve their American dream? Many people could achieve the American dream through self determination and perseverance, but the American dream could be unachievable when facing financial obstacles or the costs of college. In able to achieve the American dream, a person should have self determination. Someone who has self determination is one who is willing to take the lead in his or her life. For example, John Paul Mitchell went through many years of struggle, from childhood to adulthood, until his product became a success (Jenson). Despite of his determination, Mitchell's product is one of the most popular hair products today (Jenson).
