The American Dream is a dream that always exists; yet, it is something everyone views in different ways. When created, this dream was supposed to be a dream that all Americans share; moreover, the dream was formed the very moment we won independence in 1776. Our American Dream has changed greatly since our separation, from The Declaration of Independence, Martin Luther’s I have a Dream speech, and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ideas from The Great Gatsby, the idea of an American Dream is always adapting to our constantly changing society. King’s dream involved the American Dream in numerous ways, one of which include, his idea that all citizens should be able to have an American Dream of their own “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.” (King 1). In this quote, King explains, that the American Dream is not achieved in one day, but in many consecutive, hard working days.
