In the story of the Great Gatsby, the character Gatsby becomes the symbol and definition of The American dream, because he started off poor and quickly picked himself up to the top and became extremely wealthy. Gatsby as child had to learn what it meant to be poor, but as time was passing by he stated realizing how to gain money and become the richest man. He just wasn't there quite yet, he knew that his life wouldn't be complete until he gained the love of his life. For that to happen he had to throw fancy and exclusive parties just to be seeing Daisy and trying to conquer her love. “Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us”(Gatsby).
