The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a novel set in the roaring 20’s. This time period was filled with fun and extravagances. In the town of West Egg, outside of New York City, extravagances were in full swing. Nick Carraway, the main character, resided next to a Jay Gatsby, an extremely extravagant man. Nick and Jay become friends and experience the American Dream together. Jay falls in love with a women, Daisy Buchanan, and he strives to be with her. In The Great Gatsby, the achievement of wealth and a future is shown to be the American Dream. The American Dream that Scott creates is filled with the lust for wealth. Making money and doing fast was a dream for many people. Scott makes a point of tearing down this notion. He shows how
