The American Dream

Those who don’t let others have a chance of success, don’t deserve one for themselves. The American Dream was a dream for a chance to have a better life and be successful. When the year 1860 came by, the American Dream was dead to the slaves. It was dead to slaves because they were couldn’t be free, treated badly, and they got denied the rights of an american citizen. So if a slave had a dream to be successful, it wouldn’t come true if slavery was alive.

In source twenty , Angelina Grimke notified “ Slavery in America reduces a man to a thing, robs him of all his rights as a human being…,” meaning Slavery should be abolished because it does not let a person have the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. People came to America to have a new start and for opportunities of a enhanced way of life. These words were so powerfully said, about slavery that banned it was banned in the South because they didn’t want people in the south to start supporting no slavery. In source twenty one, it explained that African Americans can’t get the rights of an American for many reasons. One of the reason is the color of the person’s skin, people were so cruel in that time that people were judged by their color, and how rich they are. The other one is that if a master took their slave in a free state, they will not be free. The freedom of a slave could not be entitled by their slave owner. Last but not least, slavery could not be prohibits in territories by congress. Congress does not have the power to abolish Slavery so if a slave did not want to be a slave, it could not happen. The only way a slave could be free was to be bought by someone that wants to grant them freedom. Unfortunately it cost so much money to buy a slave like about $40,000 or more. So no matter how hard a slave tried to be free and get the chance to dream for opportunities, it could not
