Rick Deckard himself faces multiple moral problems as the novel develops. As he’s hunting for the escaped androids, he begins to realize how human androids can be. Their feelings are extremely realistic and to any relatively untrained eye, seem sincere, and “most androids [Rick’s] known have more vitality and desire to live than [his] wife” (Dick 88). When he encounters Luba Luft’s opera singing, “he found himself surprised at the quality of her voice; it rated with that of the best” (Dick 91). “The androids possess many qualities usually considered uniquely human” (Viskovic 174). With the androids very closely resembling humans, and Rick being a follower of a very human-empathic religion, Rick struggles with how he’s supposed to do his job
