James Patterson is the author of the Maximum Ride series. The Angel Experiment, the first book, is an uncommon mix of science fiction and fantasy. The story revolves around the members of the Flock trying to save the abducted, Angel and trying to find the Institute. The Angel Experiment began at the house on top of the hill where Jeb and the Flock lived. Later on, the Erasers tracked down the house and pulverized it. The Erasers, a type of human-wolf mixtures, were made by The School. The Erasers served as watchmen over the Flock and pursued them down when they got away. There is also Angel's puppy, Total. Max, the leader of the Flock, along with the others, is 98% human and 2% bird. This gives them wings, so they are able to fly. Max is around 5'8 and weighs almost 97 lbs. Second in command and only a couple of months younger than Max, is Fang, a quiet and a mysterious boy. Much the same as his personality, his eye and hair shading is both dark and, compared to everyone; he is the tallest and the strongest. Iggy, whose real name James Griffiths, is the only member of the Flock to actually meet his birthparents. Despite the fact he is visually impaired, Iggy is left in control throughout the story numerous times. He frequently cooks the food and does the housework. Slightly 2 inches shorter than Fang, Iggy loves to blow up bombs with his closest companion Gasman. Although the real age of the members of the Flock is unknown, Iggy, Max, and Fang consider themselves fourteen or older. Nudge is around the age of 11, Max portrays her as a motor mouth, multiple times. She is a descendant of an African tribe which explains her chestnut hair and eyes. Nudge is tall for her age, as she is 5'6 at the age of 11. In contrast to Max, Nudge enjoys clothing, fashion, doing her hair and more. Out of everyone, she is the most optimistic. The Erasers attacked them, resulting in Angel being kidnapped, the Flock tries to rescue her, but fail. Immediately they realize that they took her to "The School". After Fang looks through Jeb's old files, the Flock learns that Death Valley is where The School is located. It was then decided that Fang, Nudge, and Max would go to save Angel, while Iggy and Gazzy remain at the old base to secure it. They take off. Along the way, Max sees a girl, Ella, getting beat up by a boy and saves her, but it comes with a price; the boy shoots Max's shoulder and wing. She later awakens in the Martinez's house. Ella and Ms. Martinez seemed fine about her wings, so Max stayed with them for a while. When their old house was attacked the next morning after Max and the others left, Iggy and Gazzy explode it up to save themselves. As a result, both of them along with Nudge and are waiting in a cave for Max's return. When Dr. Martinez gives Max and x-ray, it is found that a computer was on her arm. The next day she meets up with the others and after a while, they get attacked by Erasers. Tragically, just Gazzy and Iggy made it out, while they caught and took the others. The three are soon reunited with Angel, and find a way to
