In “The Ascent,” short story by Ron Rash displays escapism when the little boy desperately seeks a place of refuge due the very stressful conditions he faces at home. For instance, the little boy parents are drug addicts always focusing on getting high. In order to get away from the drug dealing family the boy gets the idea of going on adventure into the woods. He imagined that he was taking his crush along with him on a hike educating her about nature and fighting a bear. All of a sudden the boy ran into a crashed plane that was being searched for by authorities. The boy was not expecting to find such a treasure of escape.
